“THE POWER OF HUMAN TOUCH”

The ancient art of Touch Therapy is called “Reiki” (pronounced Ray-Key).  Reiki is a method of connecting the universal life force energy with the body’s own intrinsic power of healing.  It is a gentle hands-on technique that aids the body in releasing tension and stress by creating a deep state of relaxation.  It promotes healing of the mind, body, and spirit.  This holistic energy work process restores vitality, balance, and harmony while assisting the body in clearing toxins and alleviating pain, both chronic and acute.

Reiki works well with other integrative or traditional therapies, treating not only the symptoms but also the cause, whether it is physical, emotional, or otherwise.  This is a “do no harm,” totally non-intrusive treatment that may be applied to absolutely anyone, from newborn babies to the elderly, from a pregnant woman to anyone suffering from a long-term illness.

Reiki reduces anxiety and blood pressure, and increases relaxation, according to recent research.  Participant’s anxiety and systolic blood pressure decreased significantly following the session.

Consistent with other touch studies,  recipients of Reiki Therapy reported a holistic experience.  Subjects described a change in their state of awareness as liminal, or between two known states, such as sleeping and waking, floating and sinking, hot and cold, fear and safety.  “I knew my mind had thoughts, but didn’t know what they were,” said one participant.  The word “threshold” was used by several subjects to describe the Reiki experience as bordering on two different states of being.
